-BIOGRAPHY- by Frankie Delmane

NICK CASTRO & THE YOUNG ELDERS

Nick Castro & The Young Elders' attraction to the art of folk music is one of destination as much as determination.
The sights and sounds that have influenced this band of high brow bohemians, from the traditional well spring to the
experimental ghetto, is music that attempts to transport the listener somewhere between cinematic and transcendent.

The members of The Young Elders have well oiled resumes, multi-faceted musicians who take their cues from many
disparate influences-middle eastern, pan cultural, brazilian, jazz, soul, appalachian ballads, soundtracks, acid folk and
country- culminating in a sound that is as expansive as it it specific, able to create a feeling that is complete vision
wrapped in a warmth that invites just about anybody to float into the sway of this incandescent, angular-yet smooth
and sophisticated music.

Nick Castro was first introduced with 2004's solo debut "A Spy In The House Of God." In 2005 he formed a backing
band, The Poison Tree (which featured Josephine Foster and members of Espers), helping him realize his expansive new
vision on that year's "Further From Grace." In 2006 "Come Into Our House" (which featured members of Current 93,
Damo Suzuki's Network, & In Gowan Ring) appeared, most notable for the formation of his latest group, The Young Elders,
which features the angelic voiced Wendy Watson and multi-instrumentalist wunderkind Christof Certik.

"A Day Without Disaster," the group's latest release, continues the ever evolving scope within this band's tireless reserve
of new ideas, the sound here digging deep in pursuit of an all inclusive form of folk music that serves to enlighten, entertain,
and electrify the listener into a jag of romantic reveries, elegant evenings and somber soliloquies, allowing the listener as
much time to reflect as to enjoy. Nick Castro & The Young Elders are forging a folk music for the international community,
one that strengthens the origins of this ever unfolding art form for those who need it, those who want it, and those who'll take
it where ever they go, whenever they need it, however they want it. *****
